Community Groups

Community Groups are women in the non-residential program who meet weekly for worship, prayer, and Bible study in Managua, Nicaragua. Currently, there are nine groups established in different types of locations, from meeting in a church building to underneath a tree near someone’s home. The Bible study is usually led by House of Hope staff members, however, there are leaders in each group that also teach, lead worship and pray for the individual women.

Community Groups are an important part of the women growing as believers, in their relationship with each other and in their self esteem. Several of the groups have more than 100 women attending and continue to grow. Oftentimes new women come straight from the brothels to the meetings!

Since the leaders of the groups know the women who faithfully attend meetings, school uniforms and scholarships and food baskets are distributed through community groups each year. When funds become available, women are recommended by their group leaders to see if they qualify for a micro-grant to start their own small business, which will help to support their own families.
